Visitor Center In 2006, Peter Mertes opened a visitor center in Kues right above the largest barrel cellar in Germany. Here, red wines are finished in small barrels of 225 liters and age in the barrels until the aroma of the oak wood gives the wine a special character. The visitor center holds up to 80 people and is open to everyone visiting Bernkastel-Kues. Tours are offered through the 240 meter long cellar with thousands of barrels and include wine tastings of German red wines from barrels with different levels of maturity. This unique facility can be rented for private occasions.
