What is Fair Trade?
In 1992, the nonprofit association TransFair launched its work with the goal to support disadvantaged producer families in Africa, Asia and Latin America and to improve their conditions of working and living through fair trade. TransFair does not deal with goods itself. The association awards its seal for products that are traded fairly. TransFair is not a brand but it distinguishes with its seal products that have been traded according to specified and fair conditions. To improve the independence and efficiency of the supervision of the rules of Fair Trade, the monitoring of adherence to the rules on the part of the licensee has been assumed as of January 2007 by Flo-Cert Germany.
