"Good wine for everyone" – with this vision in mind, master winemaker Peter Mertes founded a wine trading business and winery in Minheim on the Moselle River in 1924. What followed is a success story spanning over 100 years. Today, Peter Mertes is Germany’s largest winery, equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Around 400 dedicated employees work passionately to produce a diverse range of quality wines, wine and spirit-based cocktails, as well as alcohol-free products for the retail sector.
More than 1 million liters are bottled every day – in glass bottles of all sizes, Tetra Pak, bag-in-box, and cans. The company operates its own vacuum distillation plant for dealcoholization, a dedicated department for ready-to-drink (RTD) wine and spirit cocktails, and is a market leader in organic, Demeter-certified, and Fair Trade wines.
Now in its fourth generation of family ownership, Peter Mertes stands out with a wide array of popular private label wines sold throughout both the German and international retail markets. In addition, the winery’s own brands are among the strongest in German retail: our portfolio includes well-known wine brands such as Maybach, Bree, Biorebe, Landlust, and Rotwild, as well as the canned wine brand City. As a license partner, we also produce wines and sparkling wines under the label of Munich-based delicatessen house Feinkost Käfer.
Since 2009, Peter Mertes has also established itself as a sought-after partner for contract bottling, bringing in-depth expertise to the table.
